The Prince Salman Research and Translation Centre/CW
The Prince Salman Research and Translation Centre/CW, is responsible for coordination of diverse research procedures, analysis, and related activities across concerned departments in the PSU College for Women. The office oversees organization of gatherings, seminars & meetings through interactive communication, and coordinates research-related dealings with faculties, staff and outside institutions, as necessary. The office also follows-up faculty and student poster day activities, prepares faculty visits schedules in close coordination with concerned faculties, organizes workshops and conferences.
The RD Unit, College for Women, was established on October 2007, and since then achieved most of its mission objectives. Under the supervision of the Vice Dean, Academic Affairs, the Director plans, supervises, and coordinates all activities along with a committee that has one member from each academic department. In May 2009 a full time RA, Ms. Lama Al-Luhaidan joined the team to offer full time assistance in the RD Unit and translation activities.
The Prince Salman Research and Translation Centre/CW is exerting enormous efforts to encourage and enhance the faculty members’ research activities. Two new attempts that have been made in this respect are the Faculty Research Excellence Awards and the PSU-CW Annual Book of Papers. The former was announced last year for the first time and three winners collected 10,000 SR for their outstanding research performance. The award will be granted annually to encourage research efforts. The latter attempt was approved last year and should produce a new online publication including papers by different faculty members on the topics they present in the faculty lecture and workshop series.
The RD Unit has ambitious plans in the commercialization of research in the College for Women, but is starting slowly but surely. The first step is awareness-raising. The Unit has conducted a training workshop on KACST proposals and also conducting a training workshop on writing proposals for funds from different entities in Saudi Arabia.
Students are also encouraged to engage in research activities across the curriculum as stated by the Academic Affairs Office. The Research and Development Unit encourages students’ active research participation through research competitions. The RD Unit organized the first “Young Researcher Competition” in 2009, with the participation of all college departments. Winners were chosen according to internal and external review results of professors from Saudi and International Universities. Last year, for example, the winners were awarded 50,000 SR. The competition has been held two years in a row and the registration has now been opened for the 2011. Students also plays a major role in the success of the First PSU-CW Research Day 2010 by engaging with faculty members in research projects from all departments that were displayed to all guests under the title of On-Site Research.
